There is a new volleyball club on the Island called Red Rock. This past week, the 17U girls’ team from the club travelled to Halifax to play in the Sackville Sonics tournament and made playoffs on their first time together.
Saturday kicked off the season in a ten team tournament composted of 16U, 17U and 18U teams. Red Rock’s first battle was against the 18U Bedford Blizzard coached by long time Dal men’s coach Al Scott and his daughter Samantha Scott, Blizzard won 25-22 and 25-19. The second match saw Red Rock get their first official win defeating Annapolis Blaze 25-16 and 25-15. Strong serving was the key to this match.
Sunday, they faced off with Dartmouth Volleyball Club’s 18U team and lost a close first set 25-23, in the second set Red Rock came back winning 25-15. In a back and forth set, Morgan White came off the bench to score 4 kills in a row and help the Rock win 17-15. Last match of the round robin was much closer than it should have been, but Red Rock defeated the Fury 18U, 25-23 and 25-18. Red Rock was into the playoffs coming second in their pool.
Moncton Fusion 18U, proved to be too much for Red Rock winning 25-6 and 25-15 and they went on to win the tournament, defeating Dartmouth two straight and the Truro Cougars two straight.
