2020 Spring League Coaches Meeting

2019-12-12

Mark it in your calendars - Monday, January 20th!

Our annual Volleyball PEI Spring League start-up meeting will be held Monday, January 20th at 7pm at Kensington Intermediate Senior High School.    All clubs/teams that plan on playing in our 2020 Spring League MUST have a rep at the meeting.     Spring League is a development program where many kids are introduced to volleyball for the first time.  As such, our age groupings and tiering systems reflect this.   We are happy to provide this program in the spring season to help clubs and school teams prepare for their seasons.

Coach Certification requirements for Spring League.   We’ve made a slight change from last year to ensure Head Coaches who are coaching at the Spring League level are able to getting their requirements needed for the age group you are coaching.    Head Coaches now need to be TRAINED by your second year of coaching in the appropriate age category.    This is our third year with a Coach Certification requirement so most coaches should be well on their way to be trained, if not already there.   Any questions, please ask and we can send you the appropriate information.

We will be hosting both a Development Coach workshop and an Advanced Development Coach Workshop in the new year to help get your trained status.  Stay posted for these dates.  These will be the only opportunity to get these workshops in the spring.   All other coaches and helpers, please see the attached document for minimum requirements.

Divisions for Spring League 2020, the age of the athletes, and the night they will be played on include:

14U boys – boys currently in Grades 6-8 – they will play on Tuesdays

14U girls – (two divisions – East and West):

Tier 2 is Triple Ball – with girls currently in Grades 5-7 & Tier 1 is Regular play with girls currently Grades 7-8 – they will play Tuesdays.  A seeding tournament will be held on week one that will determine which teams play in the Tier 1 or Tier 2 for week 2, etc.  Each week teams will then move between Tiers depending on their placement the previous week.  Therefore teams will have the ability to move up or down depending on their ranking each week.  This should ensure all games are meaningful in both tiers.    The age of the athletes for the most part will follow the above, however there may be athletes that are the exception based on their skill level.

16U girls – girls currently in Grades 9-10 – they will play on Thursdays.  Depending on numbers, Tiers will be used.

18U Girls – girls currently in Grades 11-12 – they will play on Wednesdays.  Depending on numbers, Tiers will be used.

16U/18U boys – boys currently in Grades 9-12 – they will play on Thursdays.  Depending on numbers, Tiers will be used.

The cost for spring league will be $70 for athletes (+ annual VPEI/VC recreational membership - $21 if not already paid this membership season).

Clubs/teams can choose to charge an additional club fee and Volleyball PEI will create a registration link for your club that includes both your club fee AND the VPEI Spring League Program fee.

All other information will be discussed at the meeting.    Please come to the meeting with times that your club can host a weekly tournament on your division night as outlined above.

Thank-you.
