ADL Recognition Awards Presented at the CUP in Summerside!Volleyball PEI hands out award for
2019 competitive season!
Volleyball PEI recently handed out it’s Annual ADL Recognition Awards for the 2019 competitive season during our 13th annual Hall of Fame Ceremony and Awards Gala. The Festivities took place on March 8th, 2020 at the Credit Union Place in Summerside, PE. Also in attendance and sharing a few words were: Lee Turner from ADL, Lynn Boudreau from Sport PEI and Brenda Millar from Volleyball PEI. MC for the Evening was Krista Walsh.
The Award Winners for each category and their accomplishments are highlighted below:
14U Girls - Alina Crockett
- Played for Birchwood, Red Rock 14U Indoor, Canada Cup 16U team, Red Rock Beach and Island Surge Elite Prep
- Alina has a true passion for volleyball and takes every opportunity to play and improve her skills. She is hardworking and a team player with a positive attitude. She genuinely wants to be the best volleyball player she can be.
- Alina was named Top Offensive Player of 2019 ME Callaghan Volleyball Classic Tournament and Red Rock’s 2019 Player of the Wave for Day 1 competition at Club Nationals.
- Alina and her partner Maddy Keough placed 2nd at 2019 14U Beach Atlantics
- She was only 14 years old and was holding a starting position at a 16U tournament
14U Boys - Brayden Bruce
- Played for Queen Charlotte and Charlottetown Aces
- A major leader on and off the court.
- Excels as a volleyball player, and because of his strong work ethic and passion for the game, he is able to outperform much taller players on the court.
- He shows up every day with an excellent attitude and is very respectful to all individuals involved in the game.
- Named 2019 PEISAA Boys AA Provincials MVP
- Won the top scorer award and finished first in the setting skills competition at the 2019 Callaghan Classic
- Name to 2019 Spring League Provincial All-star team
- Provincial Gold Medal with Queen Charlotte
15U Girls - Tessa Larose
- Played for Red Rock 14U, Summerside Spring League and Three Oaks Axewomen
- Grade 10 who started many games for TOSH as a lead setter and played Red Rock indoor with the 14U team last year.
- Picks up direction extremely quickly, has a positive attitude 100% of the time, has a jump float serve she can aim and put long and short.
- She goes out of her way on her own time to look up videos to practice to develop her skills.
15U Boys - Jonathan Hyndman
- Plays for Colonel Gray, Charlottetown Capital and Canada Cup 16U
- Jonathan is a very dedicated player who constantly wants to improve. He was playing an important starting role in every team he played on.
- He is a great motivator with a positive attitude. He shows a great amount of skill and technique.
16U Girls - Ella Hickey
- Plays for Colonel Grey, Canada Cup 16U, Red Rock Beach and Red Rock Indoor
- Starting setter for Colonel Gray and did an incredible job leading the team’s offence.
- She has consistent sets, a high volleyball IQ and great court vision .
- Led the Canada Cup team in blocking and aces.
- She was the captain of the Red Rock U16 team and named Player of the Wave at Nationals
- She was named MVP at the Wall of Fame Cup.
16U Boys - Carson Gray
- Carson Gray is a Grade 11 power player for Charlottetown Rural Raiders, a member of the Confederation Skyhawks Volleyball Club and Provincial 16U Boys Team that participated in the Canada Cup.
- Carson’s talent has really taken off this past year with him earning a PEISAA League all-star, PEISAA Provincial All-Star and was also an All-Star during the 2019 VPEI Spring League. He is one of the best pure hitters in the game with the ability to take over a game offensively.
- He is also one of the better passers for his teams and is usually asked to be a primary serve receiver in many of the offensive schemes a team decides to run.
- His all-around game has improved over the past year with his serving being more consistent and his defensive game, Carson has really started to come into his own.
17U Girls - Morgan White
- Played for Colonel Gray High School, Red Rock Beach and Red Rock Indoor
- Morgan is an exceptional volleyball player and athlete who shows a great amount of passion and determination for the sport.
- Morgan is a hardworking player who is known for her aggressive offensive skills, but most impressively is her ability to play any position.
- Her spike serve and wicked line shot have been unstoppable.
- Won Gold Medal with Colonel Gray
- Named PEISAA provincial MVP
17U Boys - Jonah Keizer
- Played for Bluefield High School
- Team captain of a young squad
- He is a starting setter who jumps set 80% of the time. Top server with a grand total of 173 serves with 91%.
- He passed on every 6th rotation and did so with a 2.18 serve receive.
- Top blocker with 27 stuff blocks
- Named PEISAA 2nd team all-star
- Named PEISAA Tournament All-star
18U Girls - Maddy Rogers
- Played for Kensington Intermediate Senior High School, Red Rock Indoor and Beach. She participated in Team Atlantic Tryouts
- Maddy is a great leader on and off the court. She has great enthusiasm to build up her team.
- Maddy is an exceptional all around player. This fall, she took a very young and inexperienced team under her wing and showed great leadership.
- Maddy is a complete player with very few weaknesses.
- PEISAA League all-star
18U Boys - Ben MacDougall
- Played for Three Oaks Axemen and Summerside Slammers
- Ben is a team player who leads by example. He is always encouraging his teammates and never lets frustration get in his way.
- He is one of the hardest hitters on PEI
- He is a great passer, has a strong serve and puts up a great block.
- Named Spring league MVP
- Named PEISAA MVP
- Named MVP at Wall of Fame Cup
19U+ Female - Cassandra MacLeod
- Played for Red Rock 18U indoor team
- Cassandra played middle. Even with injuries she found a way to perform
- She has 17 aces in 7 tournament matches
- At Nationals, she had a 21% kill rate, 6 aces and served 88%.
19U+ Male - Nathan Wills
- With his quick speed and agility, he was one of the top middle blockers in the province.
- He received Bluefield’s Volleyball Distinguish Player Award.
- In the fall of 2019 Nathan was selected to the Holland College Hurricanes and has played in numerous matches and sets this season.
*Intercollegiate Female - Abby Hyndman
- Plays for the Holland College Women’s Team
- Abby is a true Gem of an athlete and a pleasure to coach. She grew as a player over the course of last season developing a better understanding of the game and the tactics needed to win.
- Abby is a force to be reckoned with in the front row and led the team in kills. Her defense has improved and she is becoming a more aggressive player.
- Abby received the ACAA rookie of the year award, and the HC rookie of the year award for the 2018-2019 season.
*Intercollegiate Male - Brett Butler
- Brett Butler has been a dominant player in the ACAA for the past few years.
- Last season was his 5th and final year playing for the Holland College Hurricanes.
- As captain, he led the team on and off the court, as well as in almost every single statistical category.
- He is a great all-around player, a consistent offensive threat and a danger to any team he plays against.
- He was the recipient of an ACAA All-Canadian award, Holland College Men’s Volleyball - Most Valuable Player and the Holland College President’s award.
*these two awards above were presented based on accomplishments of the 2018-2019 varsity season.
Team of the Year -
Beach Team of Monica Gollaher & Marie Fogarty
- Red Rock Beach team
- On the Atlantic Beach Volleyball Tour they had an outstanding record of an undefeated 17-0.
- Placed 1st in Parlee Beach 16U
- Placed 1st in Summerside tournament
- Placed 1st in Halifax tournament
- Placed 2nd in Atlantics in 16U division
Coach of the Year - Evan Killorn
- Coach of the Kinkora Blazers
- When he started in Kinkora, the program was very weak. He put in endless hours into developing the program and gave students the opportunity to learn the game.
- He has spent extra one-on-one time coaching athletes to prepare for other volleyball programs.
- Every girl on the team would describe him as more than a coach. When they are having a rough day, he is always someone to talk to. He is a player’s coach
- Kinkora has won Gold for two years in a row in the PEISAA Senior A women’s volleyball and are gold medalists for 2 years in a row for Tier 2 Spring League
- Much of the team’s success is owed to Killorn, and his athletes would like a chance to give back and thank him.
Official of the Year - Darryl Boudreau
- Darryl should be commended for his consistency in officiating volleyball matches in PEI
- It is apparent that he is very knowledgeable about the rules of the game
- He embodies the idea of Fair Play rules, not hesitating to address players, parents or other spectators who are stepping out of line.
Volunteer of the Year - Sherri Pineau
- Sherri is a dedicated volunteer who always works quietly in the background. She is one of the co-organizers of the P3 Volleyball Club.
- She helps set up new programs, looking after club finances and coaching in various programs.
- During the summer, she was an assistant coach with the 14U Red Rock beach development group.
- During the spring and fall months, she has worked as an assistant coach for the East Wiltshire boys’ volleyball program including with Red Mudd 14U boys spring league and the PEISAA boys’ league.
- During the 2019 PEISAA school season, the East Wiltshire boys’ team won Silver at “AA” Provincials.
