Spring League:
Rules
League Purpose
The purpose of the leagues is to provide competition for Volleyball P.E.I. members. Clubs are encouraged to split up their teams so each player is given the maximum floor time.
Game Day
The tournaments will be held on week nights and start at 6 pm or earlier unless notified otherwise by tournament organizers.
First Service
The first service will be determined by a toss of the coin by the referee. The winner of the toss will have the choice of sides or the first serve. There will be no switching of sides during the game. A team will play the entire game on the same side.
Substitutions
There will be unlimited substitutions during the games. Substitutes do not have to report to the referee and the referee should make sure that the substitutions are carried in a quick fashion.
Participants
Recreational registered members of Volleyball P.E.I. may participate.
Tournament set-up
Each league coordinator will set up the tournaments and will work with the hosts fo set-up, depending on the number of teams, trying to keep the tournament under 2½ hours in length. See attached for format for tournament - pending team #’s
Tied Game
When a game ends in a tie, an additional serve will be taken. Whoever wins that point, wins the game.
Referees
League Coordinators will be responsible to send schedule to Official's Assignors to ensure officials are at each tournament.
Tournaments
Each age group will play in a minimum of 6 tournaments (including provincials)
Length of Game
League games could be timed or points. This decision will be decided at the league start-up meeting.
Overtime Game
Playoff game which end in a tie will require a 2pt win. The serving team for the sudden-death will be the team that had the serve at the end of regulation time
Time Outs
Each team will be allowed 1 30-second time outs for each game. No time outs shall be allowed in the last five (5) minutes of the game.
